Jared Xu was born in 1997 in Taipei and is the leader of Berserk, a solo project that began in 2015 and in 2017 started incorporating other members such as Yang Zhi-Yu (formerly performing as Kitayama Q-Man and Tung-Kang Champion), making Berserk the youngest noise group in Taiwan. Under the name Berserk, he has released three albums and one split with Japanese noise artist Merzbow. And as Jared Xu he has done free improvisational work in collaboration with Kaohsiung vocal improvisationalist Liu Fang-Yi. He has been more active abroad in recent years, having participated in a digital compilation released by the Hungarian label Unsign Records, and having a forthcoming work set for release on cassette tape by the label Harsh Noise London. In 2016 he travelled with the Taiwanese experimental music and noise label Kandala Records to the UK for a performance at Cafe Oto, a key venue for sound art. To date, he has performed with Japanese noise musicians such as Black Phone 666 and Yoshinori Motoki, French improvisational cellist Hugues Vincent, and in collaboration with members of the Chinese noise and experimental music label WV Sorcerer Productions.
